CUE the drum roll! Yes. It’s success for Chalkmarks again – this time in the #BecauseImALondoner photo competition launched by Visit London, the Museum of London and Photocrowd.
The winners were announced on 31 August 2020 with Chalkmarks’ picture – taken by Natalie Chalk – “expertly commended” by the judges.
The picture titled “Who needs a beach when you can holiday on the High Street” showed a street scene in east London as lockdown eased.
The image shows a man in his deckchair sitting out on the pavement, soaking up the sun while another – with his covid gloves on – stands over him for a chat. “All he needs is an ice cream,” was one comment on Twitter.
Then, out the blue, a younger guy rides on by on his bike.
Describing the image, Natalie said: “I truly love this photo because it not only captures a moment but the bakery behind – Ingles – in Spanish, it means English. So this is my portrait of the English!”
The competition received 720 entries from 430 photographers.
