Pix of the trip: Iceland
Chalkmarks: Geology rocks: The European (left) and American (right) plates pulling Iceland apart

They call it Iceland but in June the landscape is green and bathed in 17C sunshine as it approaches midnight. Akureyri, the capital of North Iceland, sits on the waterfront with the white peaks of the Eyjafjörður fjord standing tall in the background.
Iceland’s second city is ready to rival Reykjavík for fun in the midnight sun! It’s filled with unique volcanic landscapes where Nasa astronauts train; there are natural thermal spas where the water is 40C; there are waterfalls; lava fields; humpback whales; puffins; and a Eurovision museum. All this before you have done anything like super Jeeping, skiing or watching the Northern Lights. Best of all, it’s just three hours from the UK. This place is a gem. Did we mention there’s Icelandic fish and chips!

Here are some of our favourite pictures from the trip!
